Marlene is back from the  2013 Interior Design Show and she is armed with lots of insider knowledge on the hottest looks colours and trends for this year. Enjoy!

Colour

Looking at popular paint companies for 2013, the one thing I noticed is that they all seem to have been inspired by nature and the urban outdoors.

My favourite is Canadian Designer Simon Chang’s concept ‘Oh Canada’ for Beauti-Tone , (a Canadian manufactured paint).

From the French Canadian Heritage to Northern inspired hues.

To eastern seaboards and the pacific beauty. This is truly a ‘must have’ palette of colours that this Canadian will enjoy on projects to come.

Hottest looks

The industrial look is still going strong. I see it everywhere I go.

I highly recommend designing interiors with reclaimed stone and wood salvaged from our rural surroundings.

Use of salvaged materials can be quite elaborate when used in luxurious settings.

The ideas are endless!

Biggest trends

The mix of Scandanavian modernism with rustic salvaged woods and industrial accents is a look embraced by Ikea. I find the modern efficiency with the warm of rustic textures to be a nice balance.

Modern revival of classic rugs.

A reflection on the past will always be with us while we strive to improve our lifestyle. From fashion forward ergonomically correct modern furnishings to energy efficient fixtures and appliances and even sustainable fabrics and flooring.

The IDS show was a nice eye opener that everyone is attempting to live comfortable yet efficiently.

Design to live smarter is just a given nowadays to make our future brighter.
