We decided to celebrate the beginning of summer by looking back at last year’s summer by the lake post and adding more fun stuff to do in Mimico. With its beautiful waterfront, friendly people, a small town feel and wonderful parks, this west end neighbourhood is certainly the place to be this summer. Here are ten more things to do in Mimico.
1. Chill by the lake
Summer in Mimico just isn’t summer without a relaxing day by the lake. Take a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk and admire the impressive views of the waterfront, or simply sit by the lake with an ice cream or a good book.
2. Ride your bike along the shores at Mimico Waterfront Park
With the recently opened park, the pedestrian-zones are just waiting for you to bring out your bike or rollerblades.
3. Appreciate the local wildlife
Just by the mouth of Mimico Creek, is Humber Bay Park which is teeming with birds including Canada geese, swans, mallard ducks, seagulls, and red winged blackbirds. The park also has a butterfly habitat which houses a variety of native butterfly species and diverse native plants.
4. Take a dip in the pool
The Amos Waites outdoor pool in Mimico is the perfect place to cool down during a heat wave .
5. Treat yourself to a spa day
What better way to relax and de-stress this summer than by treating yourself to a spa day? Stop by Vos Organic Spa and pamper yourself with an aromatherapy massage, body wrap, facial or manicure. Just typing it out makes us want to book an appointment right now.
6. Enjoy the scenery and the company at Birds and Beans Cafe
Fair-trade organic coffee, dark chocolate chip cookies and great friends. This is the perfect recipe for a lazy summer night. You might even find some live jazz on weekends.
7. If cafes aren’t your cup of tea, go out for some drinks at The Blue Goose Tavern
This tavern has seen the Stanley Cup more than Maple Leaf Gardens or the Air Canada Centre has since 1967. Local Mimico boy Dave Bolland will be bringing the Cup home to his local tavern once again. The food, the company and the atmosphere will keep you coming back.
8. Join a club
Mimico is known for its sports clubs and recreational facilities. There’s sailing at the Mimico Cruising Club, lacrosse at the Mimico Arena, lawn bowling at the Lakeshore Lawn Bowling Club and The Mimico Tennis Club has Toronto’s only red clay surface tennis courts. All the clubs and recreational facilities also host several events throughout the summer.
9. Support the arts
Bring out your inner artist by signing up for one of the many programs or classes available at Lakeshore Arts this summer. This awesome not for profit organization uses art to engage, entertain, educate and inspire the community. Signing up for a program is a great way to meet the friendly locals. They also have many programs and camps for children.
10. Sign your kids up for Musical Theatre Summer Camp
Hosted by the Music Studio, this camp will make your children feel like the stars that they are! Students between the age of 9 and 16 will learn how to sing, act and dance.
There’s so much more to do and see in Mimico than most people think. The best thing to do is to just get out there and explore!
