In her latest blog post, our interior designer Marlene Card shares a few of her favourite looks from this year’s IIDEX Canada.

IIDEX is full of innovative ideas that will inspire you to go above and beyond your everyday environment. I really enjoyed the fusion of new materials and environmentally friendly innovations that were on display this year. I noticed a few eye catching designs that I hope will inspire you this fall.

Bathroom and Kitchen

GROHE took the Silver at IIDEX for their innovative Allure faucets.  I love how the water glides through the centre of the spout and how you can see it cascading through the square hole.  It has a pure linear appeal and it lives up to its name.

I was informed that if I use Allure faucets in my next washroom renovation, I could win a trip to New York!  Anyone up for a washroom reno?   It would look something like this.

Carpeting

This year’s Gold winner WStudio, distributes the most innovative area rugs.  They are one of my all-time favourite places to shop for rugs!Last year I was fortunate enough to buy a rug from their award winning collection displayed at IIDEX for the party lounge at Onyx.

They had a lot of natural textured broadlooms at the show this year.  Don’t you just want to just lie down on one of these sensual textured rugs?

Innovative wall finishes

Pylons

This may not work for condos, but it made me think of other products that are in our surroundings that could make a drab wall look amazing.

I love Murs Finium (Friendly Wall) – two guys from Quebec that make prefinished hardwood mouldings and decorative products.  Head over to Finium.ca to see their full collection.

This walnut wall from Murs Finium is going on my headboard; floor to ceiling. It’s a nice winter project. They even have DIY videos on Youtube.

Art

Lightfalls by 3M

I love this light installation from 3M architectural markets, it makes a great piece of art.

Elizabeth Lennie, Tethys

This painting reminds me of the end of Summer and the first day of Fall. It will be displayed at the Artist Project from February 21-24, 2013 at the Exhibition Place in Toronto.  See you there! M
