Down the street from Eleven Superior, is a wonderful little, authentic Spanish restaurant named La Vinia that opened just under a year ago. We’ve mentioned this before, but everyone we run into in the community, whether it’s residents or local business owners, take pride in the small-town feel that resonates in Mimico.
We headed over to La Vinia, one of the best Spanish restaurants in the city, for dinner with hopes of indulging in some authentic tapas and paella. We had a chance to talk to Colin McLellan, the restaurant manager and briefly introduced ourselves to the owner and executive chef, Fernando Garcia.
After being in the restaurant business for years, Fernando wanted to open a fine dining restaurant that reflected his own Spanish roots. He wanted to grow his business with the community, and be close to downtown without the hustle and bustle of the city.
Colin, who has been with La Vinia since the beginning, told us that they considered several other locations in Toronto but it was Mimico that stood out.
“This area has a lot of character, and longevity played a factor too,” Colin said.
He stands by his words, having moved here not too long ago himself. “I could have moved anywhere in Toronto but chose here because of its convenience, location and the diversity. And everyone here is so friendly and welcoming.”
La Vinia has become a destination restaurant, where people come for authentic cuisine and the relaxed environment. Colin told us that they rely truly on word of mouth and referrals and it seems to be working – new patrons are always popping in from all areas of Toronto.
Fernando only serves the best Spanish dishes, made with the freshest ingredients. Fresh fish is delivered daily (except for Sundays), and fresh produce is picked up from the market before heading into the kitchen. All the dishes are made to order, with nothing pre-made.
La Vinia Restaurant is located on 2350 Lake Shore Boulevard West.
