Mimico boasts a small-town feel with the friendly neighbours and shop owners being more like family than friends. Now that Eleven Superior is under construction, we’d like you to get to know our family and friends in the community.
Birds and Beans Café is one of our favourite local Mimico haunts and when we stopped by the other day to enjoy some breakfast, we got to talking about the neighbourhood with shop owner David Pritchard.
After living in the lakeshore area for several years, David and Madeleine wanted to open a local business and saw a perfect opportunity to open up a cafe in the neighbourhood. And being the conservationists they are, they wanted to serve great coffee that helped reduce consumers’ environmental footprint. That’s where the idea of serving and roasting bird-friendly coffee came from, and it’s also the reason behind the name of the shop.
According to David, they love Mimico because “it feels like a real neighbourhood.” The people are good-natured and friendly, and are quick to become regulars to the cafe. David mentioned that he likes that Mimico is close to the city but still maintains the small-town feel. This is a sentiment many of us share.
The addition of the Mimico Waterfront Park is bringing many new faces to the cafe, and we’re positive that the new developments in the area will also revamp Mimico in all the right ways.
Eleven Superior residents will not only have the pleasure of living in the 9th best place in Toronto, but will also be able to enjoy the best homemade breakfast cookies in the city!
