2012 was a phenomenal year for us!

In February, we officially launched our blog.

And besides running the company, Davies Smith owners Ian Smith and Graham Chalmers became bloggers too! In the Land Developer’s Manual, Ian took us behind the scenes to show what happens during the land development process.

In his Construction Management 101 posts, Graham Chalmers blogged about construction management and explained the necessary steps it takes to build condominium buildings.

Our regular posts from our interior designer Marlene Card were quite popular. If you’re looking for some interior design tips, read them all here.

Our geothermal posts were wildly successful too. We will be using geothermal energy at Ironstone and the posts explain how this highly sustainable energy source works.

In our Hearthstone series, we introduced you to some of our Hearthstone by the Bay residents. Meet them all here.

And to top it all off, we had regular construction updates from Eleven Superior and Ironstone too!

Now, let’s take a look some more of our milestones from 2012.

In April we gave our Facebook fans the chance to win $500. To enter the contest, all they had to do was tell us what their perfect day in Toronto would be if they had $500 to spend.

We received tonnes of entries on Facebook and the decision was tough, but in the end , the lucky winner was Abigail Gamble who really impressed us/blew us with her idea of a perfect day in Toronto.

In May, Eleven Superior Condos went 3D! We started using a 3D app developed by vTrend Marketing Technologies that lets prospective buyers rearrange furniture into various floor plans on their computer. It gives buyers more of a realistic picture of what their units look like and how the furniture will fit in their space. Check it out here.

In June, the new CAMH center opened its doors. This was great news for us because we built the rental buildings at CAMH. We’re not just developers, but we’re builders too! We were really happy to be part of this project and playing our part in reducing the stigma of mental health.

Later in July, we caught up with Abigail, the winner of our Perfect day in Toronto contest. To find out what she spent the $500 on, click here.

We had so much fun with our first contest, so we decided to have another one. This time around, we gave one lucky person the chance to experience the Best of Mimico. We gave away a set of three gift cards to our favourite Mimico hotspots; Vos Organic Spa, Birds and Beans Café and Everest Indian Cuisine.

The contest was open to all Davies Smith Facebook fans old and new. After one week, we randomly selected the winner Lauren Brunetti, who was all smiles when she came to our office to collect her prizes.

The month of October began with a bang. Literally! We demolished the old Eleven Superior sales center and began preparing for construction.

A few weeks later, we broke ground at Eleven Superior. The media, consultants and the Davies Smith team were all on hand. Local Councillor Mark Grimes was also in attendance. We even ended up on Citytv!

After all the heavy duty work we did at Eleven Superior, we took some time out to have a little fun and got dressed up for Halloween.

We also had fun putting up the Christmas tree in the office earlier this month. It’s one of  the highlights of our year.

We ended the year by catching up with Lauren Brunetti, the winner of our Experience Mimico contest.  Find out what she got up to here.

And so all’s well that ends well. 2012 was a great year for us and we have a feeling that 2013 will be just as great!
